shmoman's Full Review: Boogie Woogie Christmas [Bonus Tracks] by Brian Se...
Brain Setzer has slammed down another hit! This Christmas installment of his songs is one of his best yet. I am a swing dancer and when I got this CD for Christmas a year ago I was more than happy. I loved the idea of dancing to Christmas themed swing, and so far I have loved doing just that.
Setzer hits the nail on the head with some new arrangements and some old favorites that have been "Big Bandified". Some of my personal favorites from the album include: "Jingle Bells", "Winter Wonderland", "Baby its Cold out Side", "The Nutcracker Suite", and "Sleigh Ride".
"Jingle Bells" is an arraignment from the age old classic Jingle Bells but it has been jazzed up and made really and truly awesome. The same jazzing up has been done to "Winter Wonderland", and "Sleigh Ride" both Amazing songs. "Baby it's cold outside" is basically the same as other classic arraignments of the song except for it is a little bit faster and more..... well, "Acted" Brian Setzer and Ann-Margaret both put allot of emotion and fun into what they are singing. My all time favorite song on the CD is "The Nutcracker Suite" what Brain has done with this song is he has taken the entire Nutcracker ballet and made the music Jazzy instead of Ballety. For example, when the song the Russian Dance comes on, the band starts into a kind of march that just starts going faster and faster. The end of the song is the best part, the band takes the Waltz of the Flowers and Jazzes it up to the max with the lead trumpet wailing and the Barry sax blasting, really the only way I can describe it is awesome.
Wow... sorry about that, it was kind of a long explanation of that one song but I really enjoy it. These songs are fun to dance to or listen to or just do anything to! I love them and would recommend adding this CD to your Christmas collection!
