Vertigo- is a great mystery- and surprises are rare (Reply to this comment)

First of all, I wanted to comment- Research Hitchcock's aversion to McGuffins-
A lot of the faults you have found with Vertigo- deal with these. It is interesting to hear Hitchcock refer to these McGuffins.
I feel the bottom line is that Vertigo deals with Deception and Obsession- And yes the movie does seem unrealistic at times. Like the fact that a Cuban factor could team up with the American mob and certain government factions to set up an elaborate conspiracy to set up a pansy and execute an assassination on an American president, that seems to be unrealistic also. Who is to say it couldn't happen.
That was supposed to come out as profound- but alas- I think it came out as silly
Well- you get my meaning
Of course, it just appears you didn't care for the movie; and that's fine. I however find the movie amazing- I suppose I am one of those enchanted by "names, silly dream sequences, and dubious surprises"- or I could be impressed by an original story, terrific performances, genuine suspense, and one of the greatest music scores.
(If anything you have to agree Bernard Herrman, does put together a good score)
And then again I am tainted with an aversion to Hitchcock movies- At least I've had my say

Great review of a vastly overrated movie! (Reply to this comment)

Dear Brian,
I was glad to see you confirm my opinion about this film. It was most certainly not Hitchock's best film, and not one of the greatest films of all time as some people thinks! Rear Window was better, as were Psycho and Lifeboat. Keep up the good work.
Best regards,
George
