Re: Clement's version (Reply to this comment)

The book by Dominique Lapierre & Larry Collins, Is Paris Burning? is a fascinating book, made into a not so fascinating film by Rene Clement. But a worst fate struck another of their exceptional books, The City of Joy, which was made into an awful Hollywood movie. Bad luck all around.

But what happened to Clement in the disastrous Is Paris Burning??
I haven't seen it yet, but have heard that's it's not universally admired.

Purple Noon and The Talented Mr. Ripley (Reply to this comment)

I also agree that Purple Noon, as a thriller, is better constructed than its Hollywood remake. On the other hand, I find Matt Damon far more convincing than Alain Delon. Well, I guess you can't have everything.
