Newcastle, the perfect setting for a perfect film. It wasn't used as a major film location until over 15 years later with Mike Figgis' Stormy Monday, which amazes me. I think its the star of the film. Osbourne as Kinnear is a revelation, effete and yet unsettling. Caine is as the height of his powers, and this remains his best films, and one of the best films evermade. The dialogue crackles with delight "you're eyes are like ****-holes in the snow" etc. Britt Eckland tries her best to ruin the film, but even her limited acting skills can't dent the power of this film. Powerful, stylish and British!!!
