James_Mommy's Full Review: VeggieTales - Dave And The Giant Pickle
I guess my love for Veggie Tales began when I was helping out in church nursery. Nursery was the best reason to plop in this video in the name of keeping the toddlers quiet (in reality "I" was the one who wanted to watch it more). Whether they understood it or not this video has it all.... entertainment and an awesome moral message.
Dave and the Giant Pickle is taken from the Bible story of David and Goliath. Dave is our scared little guy who relies on God for the strength to defeat the menacing Goliath when all others run and hide.
You start this video seeing Dave as just any other veggie...er..um...boy who gets scared when adversaries come. The video follows Dave's path in learning what faith is all about. When God tells Dave how to defeat Goliath with a slingshot, Dave doubts but relies on his faith to see him through.
This is also an awesome way to teach children about peer pressure. No one believed that Dave was right and they all ran and encouraged him to do so. Dave stayed and relied on God's strength to defeat Goliath and save the village.
This video was funny, scary and most of all inspiring. You won't regret leaving your child to watch this and most likely they will come to you wanting to know more about trusting in God.
Children under 4 will like the nice pictures and songs (there's a song break in between) but won't get the moral of the story until a little bit older. However, I can name quite a few 4 year olds who know those songs by heart!
