DDG. Pageants have certainly changed over the years. But not to this extent! Drop Dead Gorgeous has went a little to far and tried just a little to hard to place itself in the comedy section of our video stores.
I am a great fan to Kirstie Alley. I thought she was a great actress from the first time I watched her on Cheers. Now why would she stoop so low as to appear in this film? Is it her age? With age and beauty comes lack of sense? That doesn't say a lot for the rest of the beauties in this world.
Drop Dead Gorgeous is a film based on beauty queens and what they will do (along with their mothers) to get to the top. Plotting, scheming, murdering, stealing, lying, all of these are abundantly demonstrated by the queen of queens.
Drop Dead Gorgeous could be used as a form of teaching your child what not to do in real life and what can happen to you if you are obsessed enough to go that far. Or, it could be used to show your child what a future in acting could lead to. Here's a better one. What desperate producers will create to con you into spending your money on their penny productions.
The film has more than enough beauty involved in it. It also has more than enough cheap shots at beautiful girls and women. Put Kirstie Alley back in Cheers or on another make of Look Who's Talking and let her grow old gracefully, proudly and famously, not unwillingly or desperately clinging onto the fame.
Rent Drop Dead Gorgeous only if you are into watching teenage girls vomit excessively, drunken mothers with fried beer cans in their hands, blubbering over her daughters chance to escape, or if you are just a woman hater altogether.
