ssjakira1's Full Review: Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play Vol. 12 - Illusi...
Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
Yes, Im sure all of you are going to think Im a freak, with four Fushigi Yuugi postings in one day, but hey, I told you it was a Fushigi Yuugi fest! After watching Atlantis again (yes, again I love Beckett and Ronon), its time to get back into the swing of things! (and anyway, I have a lot of energy after some late night chocolate snacks)
Welcome to Volume 12, and the next three episodes. If youre coming in now, its really too late to understand anything. Youll have to go back and look at Volume 1 or you wont know anything. The series flows from one episode to another, so if you intend to buy this series be careful because reading on the summary especially may spoil some things for you. And we dont want that do we? ^_~
Summary Overhaul: Miaka Yuuki is a 15-year-old schoolgirl who discovers an old book called after following a mysterious bird. She and her friend Yui have both been sucked into it and become characters in the book, which Miakas brother Keisuke and his friend Tetsuya are now reading. Miaka has become the Priestess of Suzaku and met all seven Suzaku warriors in the land of Konan; Tamahome, Hotohori, Nuriko, Tasuki, Mitsukake, Chichiri, and Chiriko, and has fallen in love with Tamahome. Yui has become the Priestess of Seiryu and met with some of the Seiryu Seven of the land of Kutou, including Nakago, Suboshi, Soi, and Tomo. She never got to meet Ashịtare or Suboshis twin brother Amiboshi. Miaka and Yui are now enemies, and each of them have lost members of their seven protectors and on a quest to find relics called Shinzaho to summon their respective Beast Gods. But at the end will they be able to save themselves, become friends again and escape the Universe of the Four Gods? And what will Keisuke and Tetsuya find out about the book?
Episode info time! Okay, Ive noticed myself slipping a little away from actual episode info into a dash of info coupled with commentary, so Ill try to withhold my outbursts until the end and keep this part info only.
Episode 37: Miaka, in her depressed and wounded state, runs from Tamahome *insert held back comment here* and is faced with Suboshi?? No Kai-ka? Nakago has some interesting information to share, and Tomo has a few twisted tricks up his sleeve to boot.
Episode 38: Keisuke and Tetsuya have found some interesting information about the man who brought the Universe of the Four Gods from China to Japan and have gone to search for more information in the hopes that theyll be able to save Miaka and Yui. Miaka struggles with her memories and feelings, and Tamahome faces destruction at the hands of Soi and Tomo.
Episode 39: Miaka is unable to do as shes told and runs off to Sairou on her own bumping into Soi on the way. Tamahome is still struggling with Tomo, whos a scary mix something, but he might find help from someone he hadnt expected. Maybe. Still, Tomo has some very cunning designs in more ways than one.
Comments? 1.) Ok, Miaka, seriously. She is proof that 15-year-olds are not mature enough for the sort of love involved. Either that or shes just stupid. I mean honestly, if shes annoyed me before, shes really annoying me this time around. After what shes been through she suddenly decides that? And Tamahome gets screwed over again? Poor guy. Falling in love with her. Geez. Sorry, but I have to stop now or Ill just keep ranting. 2.) Wow, the guys in this book sure do fall in love quickly. This makes, what? Five now? Cripes. Hi, Ive known you for, oh, a day, but why dont we get married in the next five minutes? 3.) You know, if these bad guys would just kill their opponents when they have the chance, they so totally would have won by now.
The music within the show is older, some saxophone for tender moments, which I find amusing (I always end up thinking of Kenny G or something), and then theres the opening and closing songs. Theyre pretty good and can get stuck in your head I usually end up humming one of them right before I turn on the show. Theyre both upbeat and I like them for that.
The animation is good as always and Im sure its going to stay that way for the rest of the series. The same goes for all the voices there havent been any changes (trust me, Id know, haha), and even though I wasnt too keen on some of them at first, Im accustomed to them now, even though I will admit there are still times that do irk my little eardrums, such as Tasuki getting too excited. Tomo still makes me cringe. So very, very sad about that. I was hoping for something smooth, slick, in a frighteningly nice Ill kill you way because hes pretty wicked. I dont think Ill even comment on his laugh.
Anyway, the nice pace of the story keeps you hooked and the things the groups encounter make for difficult predictions (which Im always trying to do). Tomos skills prove for good entertainment and with the way things are going, you begin to wonder how is everyone going to get out of this now?
A warning for all you parents out there I dont know what you allow your child to see and not see, so Ill just point out that there is a tiny bit of swearing, violence (blood, death, etc.), a bit of cross-dressing (although that was in most of the previous volumes), and some nudity/sexual content especially in this volume. Things have taken a very dramatic turn. So really, its up to you. Im sure a 15-year-old can handle it, but theyre your kids!
There are 52 episodes on a total of 16 volumes, and things are still interesting. Im really excited now because I kept wondering whether or not Id get to find out about any of the other warriors for the other two Beast Gods. Happy, happy, joy, joy! Either way, Im glad Im borrowing these, because Im too cheap to shell out that much cash. Despite that, now I really want to get the DVD versions so I can get my hands on the subtitled version. I really wanna know what its like in Japanese. Especially Nuriko and now Tomo too.
Volume 12:
37: Bewitched Warmth
38: Dawn of the Heart
39: Bewitched Illusions
