From beginning to end, the Green Mile was one of the most inspiring movies I have ever seen. The common blurb makes the movie sound rather common: Tom Hanks stars as a Prison guard who must deal with having to execute a man he believes is innocent. I read the blurb, I looked at the length of the movie (3 hours), and decided not to watch it. But,
having nothing better to do, and having family who wanted to see it, I decided to give it a try.
This movie was fabulous. What the blurb doesn't say is that the man Tom Hanks is to execute is a huge, simple black man, in the south US in an era where black are still seen as inferior. And also, this huge simple black man works miracles. He cures Tom Hanks of a bladder infection. He brings a dead mouse back to life. And later, the guards smuggle him
out of the jail in order to cure the deathly-ill wife of their boss of what seems to be cancer.
The characterization, the emotion, the heart in this movie is wonderful. Everyone who I watched the movie with was in tears by the end. I recommend this movie whenever I have the chance.
Language is somewhat strong, being in a prison. There is threats of sexual abuse, but no nudity. A moderate level of violence. But despite all this, the movie is excellent, with very good morals. A must-see.
