d0l3m1t3's Full Review: Sex and the City: The Complete First Season
I wanted to put an opinion out there that doesn't actually focus in on the content of the show, but rather to warn potential buyers about the picture quality.
I got this for my wife for her birthday, seeing as she liked Sex And The City so much, she could watch it with her family and friends whenever and they could have a good old time. I'll admit, I like the show also, even though Sarah Jessica Parker at first glance, looks unattractive to most people, she grows on you. Sometimes her constant teeny-bopper sunshine monologue can be like fingernails on a blackboard, annoying, but impossible to ignore. One second gripe I have with S&TC is that it's funny, but sometimes contains too many NYC inside jokes, but then again, I guess that's the way it has to be to pull the whole S&TC theme off.
Now, for the geeks who wonder about the quality of the DVD and not just the content they probably already know about...
The first thing I noticed about the Sex and the City DVDs were not that of the subject matter, but the god-awful transfer work they did. The episodes I've seen were grainy, VERY grainy, and the color is dull... the picture just not half as crisp as it could or should be. The audio seems a bit lifeless throughout the episodes, but the overpowering grainy picture distracts you from paying attention to the audio anyways. The menus, on the other hand, are clear, crisp, bright, and decently done, I just expected an average transfer job and got much less. It really is THAT noticable and distracting.
I'd even consider paying a little extra if they'd remaster and release this set, but here's to hoping they'll do a better job on the second season.
Overall 3 star rating from me... the show warrants a 4, the poor transfer steals a star from them.
