Yes, Jan, I was. I was in England first just as the realization of the end of the Empire and the breakdown of the class system was sinking in.
And PICCADILLY is about the Empire as it began to decline but still appeared strong and vigorous; about early cracks in the class system. Dupont, with his German Expressionist sensibility, emerging from the chaos of the First World War rather subversively shows us the symptoms of decline and the cracks.
Lewis falls between those two moments.

I second that. It's like being there with you. I guess you were referring to this movie in your comment on my Screwtape Letters review, for the corruption of English society.
