First off, Heath Ledger (William Thatcher/ Ulrich von Lichtenstein) has incredible acting talent. Unfortunatley, this talent was wasted on a indescribably boring story. Sure, there were a few laughs and a couple of pretty good parts, but there was no fire in this movie.

William was the son of a thatcher who wanted more than anything to become a knight. So when William was a child his father sent him to be an apprentice to a knight.
When William was an adult he was still the knight's apprentice. The knight died in a jousting competition.

William didn't even have to fight to become a 'knight' all he did was steal his master's armor and learned how to ride.

Then, when William met Jocelyn, a princess, he didn't do anything to get her, really. He just waited till she had her maid tell him her name.

There seemed like there were parts of the movie that had been cut out to where the story made little sense. It was somewhere between confusing and boring.
