Pros: Great action sequences with state of the art special effects.
Cons: A three hour movie...a three hour movie. Damm my back hurts!!!
The Bottom Line: I would add this movie and Saving Private Ryan to your video library so that your children can watch history instead of just remembering dates and events of WWII.
Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
After seeing Tora, Tora, Tora about a dozen times I really didn't want to see this movie because from what I heard it was like Titanic. You know, a love story set around a tragedy. But it really wasn't that bad.
Everyone probably has already said the special effects were great and all the love scenes were romantic and their dates cried but I will go one further...I was shocked!
You heard me, shocked. I was shocked because the movie did not end where Tora, Tora, Tora ended...there was more! In fact it went on for another hour with a follow-up action to Pearl Harbor. Now as a history buff, I can't recall this follow-up action by the U.S., but I see why they had to have these sequences in place.
1. It is a Disney movie so it must end on a happy note.
2. Americans have to come out of the theater knowing that we did not sit and take it after Pearl Harbor was bombed.
3. They had to end the love story portion of the movie.
For those that want to know when things really happen, here is your quick guide:
- Prelude to the story is the first 15 minutes.
- The love story is the next 45 minutes.
- Action in England right after that.
- First torpedo sighting is about 1 hour and 30 minutes into the movie, but it lasts for about 45 minutes.
- Mega tears from your date will occur about 2 hours and 30 minutes into the film and then the pipes really burst the last 5 minutes of the movie.
I enjoy these historical movies like Saving Private Ryan and Patton. I am glad that Hollywood continues to use movies to tell our history, but only as long as the events are told correctly.
UPDATE: I read a few other Epinions others have read after posting mine. In my opinion, at least mine does not give out all the details of the movie and in one that I read IT WAS THE WHOLE MOVIE TYPED OUT!! What if I told you in a review that Darth Vader was Luke's father before you went to see The Empire Strikes Back? Wouldn't you feel just crushed knowing someone gave away a major detail of the movie?
