The Program:
This was taped for a television special. It starts out with Faith talking about her past year. She says that this is a show about how its all put together and what is needed to make it all possible. It begins at Hollywood Center Studios in Los Angeles. Faith comes out in a long sequined dress and starts with When the Lights Go Down. She has a full orchestra with her. Then Faith is sitting around with the band talking. She says that the next song is a classic production number like she used to love as a child. She said that she is game for most anything, but dont ask her to dance. So they decide to have dancers behind her.
She has longer hair in The Way You Love Me. She has a cute black outfit on with Capri pants and a shirt with spaghetti straps. She is wearing stiletto heels. The background singers look too cool! She is filmed talking as she is driving down the road. She shares that her first concert was seeing Elvis when she was 8. She is headed to Hollywood Palace. She says that there is no bigger rush than performing live in a small club. She is wearing black leather pants and a black shirt. She looks great! She tells us that she grew up singing in church and clips are shown practicing Let Me Let Go. That song takes her back to her church singing days. She says, music produces powerful emotions. She explains that the songs have to be right for her at the right time. She has to feel the song. She says that Cry is a song with a message that hits you in your soul. You can see the steam floating as she sings Cry. She is in all black again, but its a different outfit. The rain starts to fall all around the set.
Faith talks about how great her background singers are. Becka Bramlet is one of them and she co-wrote the next song One. Faith wanted a funky song with attitude. After singing One she talks about There Youll Be. She said that you could tell a song is special the first time that you hear it. It was one of her biggest honors to be asked to sing for the movie Pearl Harbor. She is wearing black pants with a tan shirt and jacket. She performs the song with a full orchestra.
This Kiss is done with a new arrangement. It has a more funk and rock sound to it now. She is wearing yet another all black outfit with a lace top. She gets to meet Carlos Santana. She is very nervous to meet him and her first meeting with him is recorded. She acts almost like a schoolgirl. He joins her to play on Breathe. She is sitting on a stool wearing a gorgeous pink dress.
The show ends with Faith walking off the set hand in hand with her oldest two daughters.
My Thoughts:
I thought When the Lights Go Down DVD was very interesting. Between each song are various clips of Faith. You will see her as she talks to managers, producers and the band. You will see her as she gets ready to go onstage. At one point one the DVD her daughter joins her onstage and dances with her. I really liked the Bonus Material. It was a nice touch to the DVD. I just wish that it had been longer. In total the Bonus Material wasnt more than 3 minutes long. It would have been great if it had included some footage of Tim with Faith. The fans also would have loved to seen some footage of them with their children.
I really enjoyed the between the songs clips and footage. It was interesting to hear Faith talk about different things and share things about the songs. All in all though it was very good. The DVD is filmed in color and lasts 55 minutes. I enjoyed it and am glad I had the chance to see it. Faith Hill is an awesome singer that can sing fun songs as well as ballads.
