kellyanns's Full Review: Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
Middle Earth - the place where dreams are made...
This is the last of three movies taking us into the massively complicated world Professor J.R.R. Tolkien C.B.E. (ya didn't know he was a professor, did ya?!)
The story takes up where The Lord of the Rings;Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers left us... in the midst of a great war between GOOD and EVIL.
The good being most of Middle Earth, the Evil, Sauron, (not a character you will see but more of a god-thing you see only his "eye") orcs, the new improved version of orc, the Uruk-hai, and the corrupted wizard-of-light-turned-dark Saruman.
Frodo, the hobbit, is making his way towards Mt.Doom to destroy the "One Ring" amidst many perils including his own growing connection to the ring itself.
The world of men is at a crisis point and the elves, some of the strongest in might and magic, are leaving Middle Earth, and leaving it all the poorer in beauty and warriors.
In the end, you feel a sense of closure and wonder and a bit of the bittersweet, but what a wonderful way to end... just as the author of the book wrote and intended it to be.
If this movie doesn't garner many Academy Awards, something is wrong.
If you've read the books, you will know that there are (some would say are minor) pieces missing, but the overall tone and intent is there in the movie and doesn't skip a beat when taking you to Middle Earth.
The acting is superb, the sets are the most intricate I've ever seen and the music is heart-rending.
This is a movie for the ages. It ranks up in the top 10% of all movies and deserves to be in every home to be seen over and over again.
I am really looking forward to the director's cut "expanded version" - the first one was amazing and worth the extra price it will cost. Wait for the expanded version! I made that mistake once... I won't again.
Sitting for three hours and thirty five minutes might prove challenging, but go see it more than once! Then time your breaks... This is one of those movies that used to have an (oh my heck, my age!) AN INTERMISSION! Oh those were the days... maybe they'll bring them back???
It was an amazing experience to watch this movie. It wasn't emotional as I knew the outcome after reading the books, but what a great telling of the story.
This is a keeper. Bring on the OSCARS!
