This is the first movie by Mr. Moore that I have seen. It is very likely to be the last. There were so many untruths in this film that are purported to be fact by this man that I wonder about his grasp on reality. He purports that Bush is trying to cut the pay for the military by 1/3. This is UNTRUE. Bush and ALL Republican presidents before him has pushed for payraises for the military. Having served 20 years myself, and having had NO payraises, except those required by law in both Clinton administrations, I KNOW this to be false! Moore purports that Bush STOLE the election in 2000. What he does NOT report is that since the election 3 different news organizations have counted the ballots and Bush won by 535 votes or that the Gore team tried to have ALL the military absentee ballots thrown out. I myself, being a Florida resident voted absentee in 2000 and that was MY vote Gore tried to throw out. Gore KNEW the military would NEVER vote for him due to Clinton's veto of military payraises all those years. Also, the use of a families grief for his own aims was pretty dispicable. For that mother to ask "Why my son?" was a bit of a joke too. Why NOT your son lady? What makes him any different from other sons? She brags about how her family has always been a "military" family and how "patriotic" they are, then goes on some crusade because her son was killed! Could her son be the ONLY member of that "military" family to have ever died in service to his country? As a disabled veteran myself who has lost friends, I found Mr. Moore's use of this woman, and her willingness to be used in such a fashion to be quite sad. This woman should be ashamed of herself, she has brought shame to her sons memory and the sacrifice he made for his country. She cheapened his memory. If my mother was to ever do something like that due to my demise, I would be ashamed.
America has certainly changed over the past 100 years. Teddy Roosevelt sent in the Marines when the pirates of the Barbary Coast kidnapped ONE American woman. I wonder what Mr. Moore would have to say if he was around then. Or during WW2, would Mr. Moore have come out against our involvement in that little party? Mr. Moore has said in many interviews that he does not like America the way it is. He believes that big government is the way to go. He has called publicly for a 70% tax rate for everyone. He is a socialist and he effectivly uses his movies to garner those followers who are easily beguilled. Those who can think for themselves seem to be immune to such parlor tricks, but there are many who will dance to the tune of the rotund piper as he leads them down the path he alone wants them to take. Soundbites can be made to say anything when used out of context, and Mr. Moore is an expert at spin.
