Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
I wasn't sure if I wanted to see this movie based on it's plot, but who can resist Luke Wilson and Uma Thurman? So, I inserted the dvd and pressed play.
This Ivan Reitman directed, PG-13, movie about architect Matt Saunders and his crazy relationship with Jenny Johnson/G-Girl is one wild ride, especially if your name is Matt Saunders.
Matt's love-life is non-existent when he meets, art gallery manager, Jenny on the New York sub-way. He plays hero for her and earns himself a date. Things are going good, until Jenny/G-girl turns into a neurotic and jealous girlfriend.
G-Girl, usually, reserves her powers for saving New York City citizens from harm. Matt's introduction to G-Girls super powers, tho, are in a wall-pounding sex scene. (No, nudity, but, graphic enough you don't want your children seeing it.) If Matt's private parts being injured aren't bad enough...wait for the revenge G-Girl heaps on Matt when he, with the help & advice of co-workers/friends, Vaughn Haige and Hannah Lewis, breaks up with Jenny. Too bad G-girl and Jenny happen to be the same person...now you have a super ex-girlfriend who's super mad. Things go from bad to worse when Matt and Hannah, finally, get together as a couple. In fact, you can say the shark really hit the fan. (Confused? See the movie.)
One man can help Matt stop G-girl from ruining his life, Professor Barry Bedlam. Barry and Jenny have known each other since high school and are now "mortal" enemies. Barry seeks out Matt's help to rid G-Girl of her powers. Give Matt his due, he agrees to help Bedlam, only, when Hannah gets threatened by G-Girl's revenge.
It all comes together in a totally sappy way, but, everyone ends up happy, including me, with my choice to watch this movie.
Luke Wilson plays a great Matt Saunders, someone we actually feel sorry for and like.
Uma Thurman brings humor to her dual role as Jenny/G-Girl. I did have a problem overcoming her neurotic and petty personality in this movie, until I realized I was comparing it to her kick-butt roles in the Kill Bill movies. Once I realized what I was doing I was able to acknowledge the different types of roles she was playing and enjoy her in this one.
Ana Faris as Hannah Lewis plays it up as a "goody 2-shoes" to such a degree that at times I was off-put by her. In the end, though, she becomes much more likeable.
Eddie Izzard plays, evil, Professor "Barry" Bedlam. He's annoying, selfish and has faults. He played it well and you can't help liking this bad guy.
Sexual harassment obsessed supervisor, Carla Dunkirk, was played by Wanda Sykes. I would have liked to have seen more of her in this film. as the few spots she appeared, she was funny.
My favorite of the movie was somewhat of a surprise. Rainn Wilson as selfish, woman crazy, sex absorbed Vaughn Haige kept me laughing in the scenes he appeared in. Why Matt would listen to his advice was beyond me, but it gave some of the best humor in the film.
This movie works. It's due to the cast and what they bring to the roles. You won't feel like you've wasted 95 minutes of your life after your done watching this movie. In fact, you may give thanks that your ex-girl/boy friend only gives you harassing phone calls.
