I purchased this shredder about 1 year ago. It went for $199.00 back than. If you plan to buy one, don't pay over $100.00 for it. I just saw it recently in a Staples advertisement for $100.00 plus $40 rebate (it may have been $35, I forgot exactly). My guess is that they're ready to phase out this model so they're offering rebates.
For what I use it for, it's great. I use it for general purposes, mail old credit card statements etc. For those of you who have a business and will be constantly shredding large volumes of paper, you may want to look for a heavier duty model. This shredder cross cuts and can handle up to 8 sheets or so at a time.
There were 2 versions of the 85x, the newer 85X handles more sheets than the previous 85X. You can tell you have the latest by looking underneath the motor/shredding mechanism, the latest model is named "85x-1" the old model would simply state "85x". The new model jams less frequently.
It features a small basket, doesn't hold much, forward/reverse/auto controls and safety feature that shuts down motor if you lift shredder away from basket. They do sell a basket liners, plastic bags that fit the basket, to make it easier to get rid of your shredded paper.
