WRC123's Full Review: Adaptec Easy CD Creator 5.0 Full Version for PC (1...
Well, I finally caved and bought a new CD-RW drive, a Phillips 24x(R)10x(RW)40x(read) drive. Everything worked well, and I burned my first test disks or two using the integrated software in Windows XP, and it performed flawlessly.
Then, for God only knows what reason, I install Roxio's Easy CD-Creator. Then problems started. First, the little flashy oohh-ahhh pop up screen to choose between burning a music disc, a data disc, etc was completly frozen. I had to CRTL-ALT-DEL to kill it. Then I buypassed it and went to the program itself inside it's start menu folder. It opened, and SLOWLY loaded. I have a P3-866, 450mb RAM, and when a program as simple as CD-Writing software loads slowly, you know something is up. Nethertheless, I burned one successful CD-RW disc.
The next morning I had rebooted the computer, and decided to burn another disc. I first noticed some wierd stuff- my computer's performance and start-up speed was much slower then before I installed Roxio. No big deal. Then I tried burning a CD. Well, it managed to hang (crash) just as it finished writing a CD. It REALLY hanged the system, something that I had never seen before in Windows XP.
Then I decided to bypass Roxio and burn using Windows XP. SURPRISE! Windows XP gave me an odd error message when I tried to access the CD-RW drive. UGH! After a few reboots I used the "system restore" feature to turn back the clock. Success! I managed to undo the damage that Roxio had done to my system.
Well, nuff' said. That's the last time I ever even attempt to use Roxio's software, espicially CD Creator. Plus the interface was too darn goofy and not really pratical.
