Normally, I would say that everybody is entitled to their own opinion but this is really way harsh. I haven't tested this 1/8 inch scan shift problem issue but then I don't care. I have the 780 and I'll assume that except for the fax they're the same. Given that, this is a scanner,copier, printer and that the scanner does duplex, legal, etc it prints fast it has well working OCR software etc etc etc. After all that 1/8" seems like "an issue" but not the end of the world which is essentially what one star means.
All these multifunctions have their pros and cons and some of them fail just on their software but given the price of the printer, the features, and the target market this one star review is absurd.

Hi there,
Thanks for writing back.
The fact that a Canon could design a device could not scan correctly is pathetic. Scanning is a core functionality of the device.
While everything else on the device was working very well, the fact remains that tey advertise it as a scanner, and it doesn't scan correctly. The fact that it cannot makes me feel it doesn't live up to its feature set.
If you like, I can send you samples of how really bad the scanning is if you give me your email.
What about the people out there that bought an MP730, and scan business documents (letter documents)... one day when they need to take a look, they'll notice that data is missing! There is never an excuse for losing data in my book.

You state that you don't recommend the MP730 because of the 1/8 inch margin on either side of the scanned sheet, yet everything else was "perfect". So why give it one star?
I have been using the MP730 for 3 months (traded up from an HP G85). Other than the menu being less friendly to use, I have yet to find a single thing that doesn't impress me over the HP.
I can understand being disappointed if you are continuously scanning large images that don't have margins, but it seems like too harsh a score for that single criticism.
