Pros: Excellent quality of photo when everything functioning as it should.
Cons: Constant maintenance required. Print heads guaranteed to fail eventually, and too costly to replace.
The Bottom Line: This is a good printer when things work. If you can get a new one cheap, go for it, otherwise keep looking.

| thowell's Full Review: Canon S 820 InkJet Printer |
We bought this printer specifically to print photos from our digital camera.
When we first started using it we were ecstatic with the quality compared to our old color inkjet.
Pictures were crisp, and clear, and it printed the same way consistently.
Things however have begun to progressively go sour. The more we have used it we have begun to become more critical of the quality.
Its color management needs improvement. Reds are often strikingly off, and pictures rarely look like they do on a monitor, or real life. Attempts of using appropriate color profiles have not helped.
Fine lines can be seen in the printed photos, and realignment of the heads is often required to fix the problem.
Finally, let me explain my reason for the title of this review. As another evaluator alluded to, the print heads are expensive. Several months ago, my pictures began looking dramatically different. It took me several days of troubleshooting before I realized that Photo Cyan print head was not working as it should. Figuring an easy fix, I brought it in for repair. Imagine my shock and dismay when I got hit with a $150 bill!!!
I will never replace a print head on a printer again. Technology improves so quickly, that I could have gotten a brand new, and significantly improved photo printer for $100 or less.
