Pros: Midrange and Highs
Cons: Muffled base
The Bottom Line: Quite independent from my purchase, my brother also bought them for his Dell computer. The 2400s sound compares favorably against speakers at 3 times the price.

A college dorm room is a small and shared space. Nice things tend to get broken or defaced. Combine this severe environment with an absolute NEED for decent tunes in a dorm room and you have my mindset as I shopped Circuit City and BestBuy. I was bent to get a set of computer speakers for my daughter to take to school as she was leaving soon. My own home system was needing a set of stereo speakers, too. I expected to spend $150 for my computer speakers and, hopefully, $75 or less for my daughters speakers since they were most likely not going to last more than 2 years, anyway.
I listened to the Klipsch 2.1 set ($179) and said, "those are mine" and started punching the buttons on the others to listen to Altecs, Logitecs, Yamahas, Labtecs, Creative Labs, and a couple of other 2.1 brands. I kept coming back to compare the Creatives to the others. The price of the Creative Labs was not immediately visible, so I assumed that they were similar to the others ($60 to $85). I placed the Klipsch into the cart and grabbed the Creative Labs box, too. At the checkout the Creatives rang up for $40 and the clerk pointed out the $10 rebate on the 2400s. I backed up the cart saying I'll be right back; placed the Klipsch's back on the shelf and grabbed another Creative Lab 2400s for myself.
I'm not a big gamer, nor do I play music from the computer at a high volume. This makes the 2400s perfect for me. I really appreciate the very small size of the satellites and the powered sub is also small.
Note that the newer 2500s can be bought for $39 (with a $10 rebate). Although the 2500s are similar, the 2400s reproduce a better midrange sound ... good luck finding the 2400s in a store. Perhaps an on-line store is your best bet to buy the 2400s.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Turn the base control on the back of the sub down to 25% - 50% and use your computers sound card equalizer to crank the base up. This makes up for the muffled base sound from the powered sub.
The 2400s (nor the 2500s) have a headphone jack!?! I'd call this a Con, but, many of the other speaker brands lack a headphone jack. Buy a Y-jack from Radio Shack so that you can easily keep both speakers and your headphones connected to the computer sound card.
