Pros: Good sound quality, EAX, price for storage capacity, replaceable battery, good battery life.
Cons: Bad case and earbuds.
The Bottom Line: I'd definitely recommend the player, for its price. While not as sleek as an iPod- the functions and quality is top notch.

| bliu21's Full Review: Creative Technology Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra (40 GB)... |
After reading several reviews for my first purchase of an MP3 player, I decided to go with the Jukebox Zen Xtra 40 GB. The biggest factor in my decision came down to price. My purchasing price of $250 for this 40 GB player probably represented the best GB to price ratio for all the high-capacity players out there. I do not regret my decision one bit, after having this for about 2 months now.
On opening the box, the player construction is pretty solid. As with other reviews, the faux leather cover is pretty flimsy, and does not have a window to see the intuitive menu (which has pretty decent resolution and size). I have not had the problem with the front cover popping off after little bumps, so I cannot comment on that.
The sound quality is just as good as any other player I got to play around with at Best Buy. Yes- the earbuds that came with the player is not of the best quality. For true audiophiles, you might want to purchase a better one. For my casual use, what came with the player is sufficient. With different modes (EAX)- you can modify the environment- a pretty neat feature.
The software is pretty easy to figure out once you play around with it for a while. Savvy computer users will get it almost right away. Getting the songs onto the player via USB 2.0 is a breeze and fast. My first quick transfer of 1.5 GB took less than 5 min (probably not exactly as I didn't time it).
Playing time off a single charge is very respectable. My experience has been about 9-11 hrs. Very nice for a long flight. The fact that it's replaceable makes it even better. The player also acts as a portable HDD, with space for data, making it a very versatile piece of toy.
I really don't have much negative things to say about the Zen Xtra 40- other than the case and earbuds mentioned above.
