| Carazariah's Full Review: Dell Dimension™ 3000 (D30RS) PC Desktop |
Introduction
This system is less than 2 weeks old. We received it for a onsite client update and I've configured and rolled it out completely in just a few days. I retired my 2200 to the floor once this P4 3.0 GHz Pentium was here. Something good to know is if you go ahead and choose the 3.0 GHz model you'll be getting an updated version of the Intel architecture which supports a 800mhz front side bus instead of the 533mhz on the 2.8 GHz model and 400mhz on the Celeron processors which are an option on some of the Dimension 3000 models.
Buying Tips
Another buying tip is look for the Dell specials they are always running deals and your libel to save a few hundred bucks. You can do this by watching the website and updating your system configuration, when Dell throws in double memory, a free printer, or other instant discounts these can add up at checkout. By The Way Dell Mail in Rebates generally comes in without a problem and Dell Customer Support can be counted on to help if the Rebate doesn't make it.
System Specs
This system came pre-loaded with Win XP Pro, 512MB of Random Access Memory (Think of it like your Desk at work. The larger the number the larger the desk and the more applications you can run at once) this is a good size for Windows XP Home or Pro. You'll be glad you spent the $100 bucks or so for the 512MB if the system has 256MB standard. In addition this has an 80GB Hard drive which is more than enough for our applications. A standard feature is a CD Burner CDRW. This 48x feature allows easy access and portability of files that are too large to email. Use it often to send photos and videos to friends or family! In addition a 10/100 Network Interface card is built into the Motherboard on this system and is necessary for your Home or Office Internet or Local Area Network (LAN) connections.
We didn't order monitor's with this system since we already had plenty of 17' CRT's around, but take a look at the 17' and 15' flat screen displays they can be added for less than you think when Dell is running specials.
Wrap it Up
In closing the Dell 3000 is strong contender to take over Dell's bargain basement pricing. It's steady architecture updates and bargain pricing make it an attractive upgrade over the only slightly less expensive Dimension 2400.
Buying History
And just to let you know this will be 4th Dell Dimension 3000 I've ordered now and so far there haven't been any complaints! (Less than 1 month run time :))
UPDATE-Consumer Customer Care Nightmare
Okay I'm modifying this If you are buying choose the Small Business Option - The deals are slightly different but the upfront sales support and customer support are phenomenally better for North American Customers on the Business side:
The Great Business Customer Care
Case 1 in Point: I've bought 4 Dell Dimension 3000 through the Small Business Side: All four arrived system wise flawlessly. However the final two had a $373 dollar over charge and we are still missing One free printer. I was able to resolve every discrepancy but 1 in 1 hour on the phone with Small Business Customer Care.
Case 2 in Point of the Difference: We ordered a Dell Dimension 2400 in June with a $200 mail in Rebate: The Rebate never came in: Dell Small Business Support Credited our Account after speaking to them for 20 minutes. That's service I like and Love about Dell Small Business
Case 3Against Buying through Home Support:
I purchased a Dimension 3000 and Inspirion 1000 with a Canon A75 Camera and a All in One Dell 942 Printer with a 256 Compact Flash through a Dell Kiosk, the Dell Agent filled out the Order we told him what we wanted:
Case 4 Currently I've spent 6 Hours online with Dell Home Order and Customer Support. I've been disconnected 3 times after getting affirmative guarantees that I would be warm transferred (I don't think they even knew what I meant)((FYI a Warm transfer is when the Agent your speaking to, waits on the line and introduces you to next Agent, this is Proper Customer Care)) Obviously the 3 times I was disconnected I was never contacted and no one resolved the issue:
Case 5 To their credit after the 5 hours I have resolved 2 of the 3 issues I have received the correct discount that should have been credited to begin with I was missing about $150 in discounts from a Dell Elph Game Code We entered but didn't process correctly at the Kiosk:
Secondly we were able to modify and drop the A942 after reading the awful reviews online and realizing that the printers were delayed for two weeks! Yuck, We're going to buy an Epson CX6600 locally.
Case 6 Against Finally the most Inane one is the Compact Flash Card, As I wasn't aware of when the Dell Rep completed our Kiosk order there are 2 types of Compact Flash and evidently they are physically different: He ordered Type II the Canon A75 is Type I: Currently I have gone in circles Emailing the email address provided on Dell's Order Confirmation (A real person not a canned generic one) And trying their online Chat support another amazing story of technical incompetence from a otherwise Superior Company and Spending as I said now nearly 6 hours on the phone I've made now 9 calls and have been unable for Dell to correct the mistake their online Kiosk rep made: Currently instead of ordering the 256 MB Compact Flash from Dell which I provided to an Order Support Rep and via email to the personal address provided by Dell(who was in India) I was told they couldn't modify the order (By the India Rep) because it would permanently cancel the 2 free printers which evidently can't be shipped out without ordering the systems and the order can't be modified it has to be cancelled: Why they put the Compact Flash with the Printers is Beyond me: It was done that way from the beginning even before modifying the A942? Who knows why?
Final Update on Consumer/Business Sales Support
So sorry for Ramble, but this has not been a pleasant Dell buying experience and seeing as its my first Consumer Experience, I believe I'll be sure to click the Small Business link for any future Personal purchases!
Dell Finally Comes Through
After a letter to the Austin BBB I received a quick response in 1 week after submitting the report online: Dell answered and has delivered two upgraded printers! This was an exceptional turn around and I'm modifying my Technical Support rating to Indicate the Resolution!
BTW - I've Purchase 3 Dell Diminsion 3000 for my Employer and 1 for Home use:
Bottom Line
Great System
Great Price
Horrible Consumer Sales Support
Great Small Business Sales Support
And Dell Business Order and Customer Support is EXCELLENT!
