| ronc27's Full Review: Dell Inspiron 1100 (1100RS3) PC Notebook |
I was in the market for a laptop to take with me on trips. I wanted one for mainly entertainment purposes mostly and a little word processing on the side. I didn't have a lot of money so I shopped around and Dell.com had the best prices. I also found a nice coupon for a Dell laptop at dailyedeals.com.
I went to Dell.com and found the site easy to navigate. The Inspiron 1100 is their cheapest base model so I chose it. When you select the laptop you want it allows you to customize the hardware and software that is included with the laptop which is great.
The base model of the Inspiron 1100 comes with a 2.0GHz Celeron processor and 128MB of RAM. It has a 20GB hard drive and a 24X CDROM drive. It also comes with a built in network card. It has a 14.1 XGA screen. Sometime Dell offers free upgrades to the base model so you may get more RAM or a bigger hard drive depending on Dell's specials.
I bought the Inspiron 1100 after customizing it to fit my needs and received it not long after I ordered it. It arrived in a large box and was well packed inside for safety during shipping.
I have had my Inspiron for a couple of months now and have had no problems with it at all. Using it has been a breeze. There were a few quirks I didn't like. The option where you can just tap on the touchpad and it would act as your mouse buttons was too sensitive. I was always clicking on stuff I didn't want to while just moving the mouse cursor around. This option was easily turned off. Then there was the antivirus software that was included with the computer. It was always giving a pop-up box wanting to update itself even after I turned off the automatic updating. Other than these couple of small things the laptop has worked great.
I would recommend the Inspiron 1100 to anyone who is on a tight budget but needs a laptop. The price is great especially if you find a coupon. It is easily customized to fit your needs and is backed by Dell's service and support.
