I searched around a lot before I purchased my Dell computer. Since I'm a software consultant and spend hours every day on my PC, I needed a powerful computer to due all my computing tasks. I've had several experience with many types of PC's in the past. From Compaq, Gateway 2000, Hewlett Packard, Packard Bell, and others. I was new to Dell, but had heard great things about them. After checking around for price/performance comparisons, I decided to try the Dell, and I am very glad I did.
First off, the order process was very simple. You can configure your PC online, and then place the order online or by phone. Either way, it is very simple, and the sales people are very knowledgeable and helpful.
Next was the wait. I was surprised that I had my PC 3 days after ordering it. I couldn't wait to get it set up, so I dug in right away. Everything came just as expected. The color-coded diagram included, even though I didn't need it, would be very helpful for a newbie. Setting up the PC took all of about 5 minutes. It came complete with PC, monitor, speakers, keyboard, mouse and all cables. Everything was color-coded and very easy to hook up.
When I first powered the computer on, I was instantly amazed at how quickly it booted up. It was almost instant, as compared to the 2-3 minutes my old Gateway 2000 takes. I was already impressed. After the PC was up, it still amazed me. It seemed SOOO much faster than the larger, more powerful PC I have at work. The 1GHz processor with 256MB of RAM will make any application scream, and the 40GB hard drive will hold tons of information.
Now that I have used this PC for some time, I am still very pleased with it. The only problem I have had was that the mouse quit working. One call to Dell's superb tech support, and a new mouse was on its way. It arrived the next day after it was put on rush delivery. I was impressed once more.
I would recommend this PC to almost anyone. Due to the way Dell lets you configure the PC, it can be built to fit anyone from a new user to an experienced gamer. It is even expandable enough to add new devices if you so desire. Due to my experience with this Dell, I am hooked forever. I can't say enough good things about this machine.
