Pros: It was a nice concept.
Cons: Ummm, the fact that IT DOESN'T WORK and customer service DOES NOT EXIST.
The Bottom Line: They will take your money and leave *you* out to dry. If you must waste your money, send it to ME and I won't clean your clothes either!

| sky_shannon's Full Review: Equator EZ 1612 V Front Load All-in-One Washer / D... |
Wow. What can I say? I wish I'd cut off my own hand instead of buying this piece of junk, or at least read the reviews on this website (my husband did some review searches and actually found positive ones in other places!)
My story pretty much pans out like everyone else's: we bought this unit thinking we were being environmentally friendly, etc., even though we had the space for standard units in our new home. Purchased it in March '04. It arrives cracked (cosmetic damage) from shipping. New baby arrived April 12, 04. Unit dies (heating element) 3 weeks later. Wait 2 weeks for repair guy, who of course does not have the necessary board to replace it. Leaves unit partially disassembled in washroom. Never see or hear from him again. The company we purchase it from is pretty useless in trying to get him to come back or to get any help from Equator. Customer service from Equator: non-existant. Have yet to have them return any calls; we've always had to follow up, for the complete lack of good it's done us. Eventually broke down and bought a new Fridgidaire unit from local shop as hauling a baby back and forth to the laundromat reached ridiculous.
Faxed in my formal letter of complaint demanding a full refund. It has been 2 weeks; no response. In fact, 'customer service agent' could not even find fax when I called today. Unreal. If you are *still* considering buying this unit, please check out Equator's record at the Better Business Bureau. You'll find an 'unsatisfactory' record with the phrase 'company did not respond' over and over and over. (Yes, in our eagerness to be environmentally friendly, we were foolish and did not check there ourselves!)
Actual product review from the 6 weeks it worked: ridiculously small loads (way less than we expected,) very wrinkly, stiff clothes that take 2-ish hours to dry (another hour for wash cycle,) non-intuitive controls, and a poorly translated manual from Italian.
UPDATE 12/22/05 -- > 21 months later...
my husband and i had completely given up on this, when about 6 months ago, out of the blue, we were contacted by a customer service representative from equator who had found our file, saw that it was still unresolved, tried to help us and even verbally offered us a full refund. we were surprised, appreciative, but hesitant to belive our good fortune. and a good thing too, or else we would have been very surprised when over the course of the next four months, AGAIN, nary a phone call was returned, of which we made about 20. i called equator for the final time only to be informed that this employee no longer worked there, and they couldn't seem to find our file -- could we please resend in ALL of the information from the past 21 months?
we've closed our complaint with the BBB with a negative status.
