Of all the things I have to do as a mom of 4- cooking, cleaning, shopping, loading and unloading the dishwasher, laundry (to name a few) - the thing I detest the most is mopping.
For anyone who mops, you know why I find it so much fun, but for anyone who hasn't done it in the last few hours let me remind you.
With four kids my hardwood floors and bathroom tiles get dirty as fast as I can mop them. No sooner have I mopped one section than dirty shoes or dropped food come along and get it dirty again. My hardwood floors look dingy and dirty no matter how many times I drag out the old mop and bucket.
Which brings me to my next point, that old mop and bucket. YUCK!! Just looking at the dirty germ filled mop head makes me shiver. I feel like I should put on a new one as soon as I am done mopping and that can get expensive.
The there is the smell of floor cleaner and hardwood floor cleaner. That's one sure way to clear out my house and the smell lingers for hours.
Next there's the chore of having to get out the mop, rinse the mop, fill the bucket, lug the bucket, empty and refill the bucket until you are done.
Then there's the problem of having to wait half an hour until the floors dry. That's practical with four kids. I'd have to mop at 10 pm so that no one had to go potty and walk on my wet floor. I've had too many children slip on wet floors and get big bumps to make me want to mop on a regular basis.
My last problem, or pet peeve, was that even when I was done mopping I never felt like my floor was clean, especially around my trash can and under the toilet bowl. I always felt that germs were lingering and there was always a sticky residue left over.
Now I have solved that problem and am in love and totally obsessed with mopping. Why you ask? Because I just bought a Eureka Enviro Steamer and can't stop cleaning my floors. It's the best $79.99 I've spent in a long time.
I kept seeing the commercials for this product and thought what stupid person would spend $100.00 dollars on a steam mop? Not me ever!! Then I saw it again and again getting awesome reviews and praise. They said it cleaned great and was easy to use. It got a five star rating from Good Housekeeping and was talked up on 20/20 and Dateline. The other day I broke down and got one at my local department store on sale for $79.99 and I wish I had done it sooner.
It takes one minute to assemble. Twist the handle to mop and pull up the handle to your height. Put on one the machine washable covers, fill with two cups of water, twist on the cap, put it in it's heating holder, plug it in, turn it on and wait three minutes for it to heat up. (You don't use any cleaner, just the steam).
You can use this on any floor surface and a sealed wood floor. It's so easy to use and it looks like I have a brand new bathroom floor.
To test out how well it cleaned, first I mopped the floor and let it dry. Then I steamed the floor clean. I almost puked when I saw how much junk was on the cover after I was done. It got up everything, dust, urine, crayon, etc.. It even cleaned between the tile. My floor was so shiny and without chemicals - I couldn't believe it. It also cleaned my hardwood floor and left an awesome shine.
Because you are using steam to clean the floor dries within minutes. no more slipping and waiting to walk on the floor. I can also mop faster with this than a regular mop and they give you a nice long cord so you can do the room without having to unplug it. When you're done just turn it off, unplug it and let it cool off. You can pop the cover in the washing machine when it gets dirty. This is so simple and actually fun.
It is hard to get around toilets and in corners but practice makes it easier. If you have a stain let the mop sit on it for 5 to 10 seconds and it will be gone. I also used it to clean the bottom of my tub, jacuzzi and shower and now they sparkle as well. Just be careful not to tip it when it's in use. It does get hot so keep the kids back.
I can't sing the praises of this little wonder enough. I wish you could see how clean my floors are. I am so impressed and happy and suggest that if you hate to mop and have lots of bare floors that you look into getting one.
