| Susie-34668's Full Review: Excalibur Electronics RD-SS FM Radio |
I talk to a girlfriend once a week on the phone. She is the lady I, or my husband phones, when I have a panic attack. She has such a calming voice, and can get me through one, because she suffers too. When we talk, she asks me what calms me, and I tell her 'walking along the beach and listening to the waves'. Keep that thought in mind.
I was in Ross the other day, starting to look for small Christmas gifts. I picked up a package and couldn't believe my eyes. The smallest radio I had ever seen, with a button on it, stating "Sea Wave". I thought Wow, this is for me. The box had $15 on it, but the Ross price was $5.99. I, of course, bought it and couldn't wait to take it home.
About the product.
It takes two "AAA" batteries, which are really easy to install at the back of the radio. The radio itself measures around 2 inches by 3 inches. It is gray metal with black plastic where the buttons are. You can only use it with the earphones, which come with it.
Just looking at the radio.
On the right side is the off/volume switch. Below that is the radio/sound switch. You just flip this from side to side, to choose which one you want. On the front top is the radio part. There is one button divided into two parts. Reset and scan. Here you can listen to preset radio stations.
Below this are the sounds. Press the button for Sea Wave or Jungle.
At the back of this little machine is a clip to slide it onto a belt, or my bikini. You can also just drop it into a pocket.
So how did it work for me.
The radio worked great in the house, just sitting down. All the stations came in good. When I tried the radio at the beach, it was hit or miss. Some stations were great for awhile, but when I was walking I often lost the signal.
The Sea Waves were wonderful. I walked a local beach, that does not have waves. Put my little machine on and looked out across the water. I listened to the waves come crashing in. What a feeling. This continued for 15 minutes, when it stopped automatically. I pressed the button for another 15 minutes of pleasure. This is a great feature, because if I used it to relax at home, and fell asleep, it wouldn't keep running until the batteries died.
I personally didn't enjoy the jungle sounds, but there must be someone out there who would.

What I like.
It is so small and compact. Fits in the palm of my hand. I like the gray and black colors.
Dislikes.
It is very flimsy, but what do you expect for $5.99. Also you can't use it without the earphones.
