| telecaster69's Full Review: Fender 69 Telecaster Thinline Electric Guitar |
Three months ago, I was at the music store perusing the wall of guitars, picking up and trying out many different makes and models. I came across a reissue 1969 Fender Telecaster Thinline series. I picked the Telecaster up, plugged it into an amplifier and within thirty seconds of playing this guitar, I was immediately sold on it. With its retro Tele look, this guitar delivers a performance that rivals any other guitar I have heard or played. The reissue 69 Tele is a semi-hollow Mahogany body, with a single f-hole cut into the top. Its neck is a solid piece of Maple, and is a breeze to play. With its 2 vintage style single-coil Tele pickups with Alnico Magnets, positioned by the bridge and neck, the control pickup switch, which has three positions, and the master volume and tone control knobs are all located on the bottom of the body. This guitar also has an adjustable bridge which makes for a customized height of the strings, suitable for what ever the player wants.
This guitar just plays as smooth as butter. It such a light guitar; you can just throw it over your shoulders and play it for hours, without your upper body ever becoming tired from the weight of the guitar hanging. But the most important part of this guitar, or any guitar for that matter, is its sounds. If you are looking for a guitar that has a real nice twang to it, or a nice medium tone for playing rhythm, and if you want to shed up the fret broad with some solid riffs, then this is the paragon of guitars.
I have played this guitar through five different amplifiers and its sound is always consistent. Now of course your amplifier can make or break the sound of a guitar. But I put it through a Fender Super Reverb, Fender Superchamp, Fender Deluxe, a vintage Danalectro and Orange amplifiers. All of these amps accentuate the characteristics and tones that the 69 Tele has to offer.
Not only have I loved playing this guitar, but other people that I know, have come into a room or at the studio, and their eyes immediately light up and gravitate to it sitting in its case, and they start raving about how great it looks. Then they ask to play it, and when they do, a connection of love happens and the desire of envy occurs.
I have two other Fenders, a 1982 solid body Telecaster, and a 1976 Stratocaster. The 69 Tele beats out both of them by a long shot! I also have two other vintage Gibson electric guitars and an two Epiphones, but now I just like using this guitar for most of my playing. Its a great live performance guitar, but works great for recoding in the studio.
I play a lot of blues, rock, country, jazz and this guitar is amazing for all four types. In fact, I dont think that there is a style out there (which using guitar in) that it wouldnt be great for. Out of all the guitars in my collection this has by far become my most favorite to play. For anybody out there considering purchasing this guitar, I highly recommend that you do! You will not be let down.
I paid $650 dollars for this Tele new, and it was definitely worth the price. So if you have a few hundred bucks burning a hole in your pocket, and you want a great guitar, then buy this one.
