Eric Clapton, I never knew any of the background information that you gave us in this excellent review. Thanks for the enlightenment!
My best,

Now here is one I know about :-) My 15 year old really wants this and of course another Les Paul ?? He spends all of his money and ask for guitars for every gift! He has 6 now and I worry that is ALL he will every buy! LOL But at least i know the lessons are appreciated!
Good review - even Alexander said so :-)

I really enjoyed this review. It not only told a wealth of info on the instrument but gave us a nice history lesson too. Also, thanks for adding me to you WOT.

Kinda sad... (Reply to this comment)

...119 or so ratings and only three (now four) comments.
Anyhoo, good review, even if a good deal of it did go over my head, to the extent that the only comments of relevance I can make is:
1)My husband is a huge Clapton fan (6'5" dontya know)
2) My daughter badly wants to learn to play electric guitar...and she's left handed.
Cheers!

Leo was a Genius (Reply to this comment)

Leo was a Genius - the American Dream - Here in the UK we hold the Start in righteous rapture. Slowhand (Clapton) knew a good thing when he heard it.
What I have always thought is that Blackie looks nondescript. A basic ugly combination of body and pick guard that displays little style or intrigue. However, having read this review all is explained and, the character of Blackie is established.
I would have liked to know more about the full tonal qualities, especially about the Gibson influence vis-à-vis humbucker sounds.
I too am a Gibson man but lately have bought several Strats - I now have the bug if you have it as well, you know what I mean :) The Stratocaster is more than a guitar, it is an institution and players belong to a universal club. In the review, it would have been good to learn if ol Blackie could handle some Jazz chord definition in addition to RnR.
Notwithstanding - Tonight I am going to buy one.

I am fortunate enough to be able to play one of these every Friday at my gigs. I don't own it myself cause i personally can't afford it..yet:) but my friend does and he is overly generous. I can't tell you of all the different sounds and combinations you can make with this guitar. Our other guitarist plays it almost excusively on 4-6 with great tone to boot. He is really into that ol' skool blues and funk and favors the eric johnson strat. I really like the clapton though!!! it can still make that 50's quack although not quite to the same extent but it is really good at modern day rock. I'm fortunate enough to play through a marshall amp to get the best sound which is extrememly important that your amp isn't lacking before you judge this guitar!! it can nail "the wind cries mary" and make everything inbetween. Wonderful guitar! capable of any imginable sound!!!
