Finlandia is vodka made of glacier fresh water and is in the upper medium price range at about $20 per 750ml.
Upon opening the bottle, the first olfactory impression will probably be that this is indeed a high quality vodka. It maintains almost none of the ethyl alcohol smell.
The first taste reveals a very smooth and neutral drink, with only slight hints of sweetness or taste of any kind. Down the tongue, it indeed feels warm.
The finish of this vodka is very anti-climactic. It is basically so neutral that the only way you can tell that you have swallowed it is the vodka after burn. It has only the slightest bit of breezy citrus flavor upon finish. The burn of this vodka is not quite as bad as some of the cheaper vodkas but is much more noticeable than the king, Grey Goose. The lack of flavor in the finish is definitely the most disappointing fact, if it is indeed intended to be 100% smooth then why not knock the burn down a couple of notches?
In the grand comparison of Vodkas, if Belvedere and Grey Goose are considered dessert vodka, then this drink would have to be labeled something like appetizer vodka. It has to be ingested along something of greater flavor or the drinker may feel let down.
This is good vodka for mixed drinks and is above average vodka for drinking straight up.
Compared with Absolut, which costs several dollars more, this vodka merits a better overall rating.
