Pros: What we wish we purchased last time, and the time before that.
Cons: The washer will bang around if a rug causes a large imbalance.
The Bottom Line: What Maytag, Whirlpool and the rest should be making. We really do like it!

We recently purchased and installed the Fisher & Paykel washer and dryer.
Likes:
Size: fits our smallish laundry room much better. The Maytag units are huge. I think the size of the Maytags is just for show as the capacity is not that much different between them.
Quietness: Hardly know that it is working; jeepers, peepers the beepers are just the right loudness.
Cleaning: Cloths are very nicely cleaned, no issues here at all.
Ease of use: Control panel is very nicely thought out and wipes clean easily.
Cost: We were prepared to spend over two thousand for the Maytag Neptune series, but read so many negative reviews that we tossed that one out rather quickly. The F&P units are half the cost of the Maytag Neptune series. Maytag, are you listening?
References: The salesman, focused on the Matags, admitted that his family of five have owned the F&P washer and dryer for six years without any problems at all.
Running: It is the only washer we have heard of that people like watching it wash! It does it differently than most washers and it can be distracting in a positive way when used. Set up bleachers for the crowds that it draws.
Control panel: Simple and easy to use. Take a look at the Maytags and Whirlpools for complex control panels laid out more for appearance than use.
Styling: Plain styling, I do not like extra cost just for appearance. We show off other parts of our home, not our wash room - well, at least before this! I am rating the styling as a five because washers need to be washers, not monuments to Neptune.
Miscellaneous: Comes with hoses that have stainless steel braid.
Compact disks are supplied with control panel instructions – the control panel is easy to use and has lots of extra features that are described on the CD.
This washer will not rust out around the bleach fill area like our prior Whirlpool did (ruining clothing in the process). The upper surfaces of the Fisher&Paykel are plastic and immune to corrosion.
For Maytag, we were told that we had to use the Maytag supplied hoses for their warranty to be in effect and could not replace the Maytag ordinary rubber only constructed hoses with steel braid reinforced hoses.
If the load is imbalanced, it rinses again and tries spinning again and then, if still imbalanced, it stops with a series of beeps.
On our Whirlpool, the pump would shoot out water so suddenly that the fill into the drain would shoot a brief spurt of water out into the room. Annoying at worst as it dried quickly, this problem has disappeared as the F&P does not do this and F&P extracts the water just as quickly as the Whirlpool.
There is not a bleach fill on under the lid. A cap is removed on the center of the agitator to pour bleach in. We do not use bleach, so this is a moot point for us.

I do not have anything to do with any company mentioned. This is a true user review. Always toss out the best two and the worst two reviews. We are very pleased and anticipate a long run with the Fisher & Paykel units. That's it. I have to go; I will be taking another look at the washer working away, hopefully there is room on the bleachers.
Summary:
We would purchase again in an instant. Read all reviews before purchasing! Good luck.
UPDATE: June 2007; Still extremely satisified. Cleans cloths great and is really quiet, even during the spin cycle. The spin cycle noise is just different.
