I wish I could write an epinion on Matrox, the company, because I'd rip them a new virtual a$$hole. If you're considering buying ANY Matrox product, be prepared for sub-standard documentation, poor technical support, and plenty of time to set up your new toy. Their "PowerDesk" utility (which is an oxymoron, it has no "utility" at all) is not cross-compatible between THEIR OWN CARDS. So you have to uninstall everything to install the new card.
Asinine.
Now, on to the card itself. I haven't gotten mine working yet (see above), but I played Quake III at the store where I bought the G400, and the computer was running this card. Wow. Most people in the industry agree that this could be a 3Dfx killer. Don't bother with the 16MB model, go for the 32MB card. The demo software (available at www.matrox.com) almost sold me by itself, but when you flip on your favorite game, this card shines. Quake III ran at a super-fast frame rate, even with all of the lighting/reflection options turned on. And this was on an AMD running at 300 MHz!
Great card, lousy company. If you are proficient at installing your own hardware and solving the problems that will arise with Matrox products, get one now! Otherwise, you may want to wait until your PC-geek buddy comes over. You'll need his/her help, trust me.
