This being my daughter's last year of high school, we'll soon be looking at lap top computers for her college career; which is coming up a bit fast for me. When the time comes, I'll give you a holler for advice.
Very nice review on this model by the way.

Bob,
Thanks for stopping by; yes the port replicator does have that annoying bar across the rear, the purpose of which I have yet to figure out!

nc4000 user here... (Reply to this comment)

based on the specs you provided (thank you!), I can see that I would rather have had our Desktop Support team procure some nc6000's rather than the nc4000's. Sounds like both laptops have some of the same configuration problems, though. One interesting difference, the 4000 has the Smart disc slot all by itself on the side - no access problem there
I have also noticed the difference in internal and external video on the nc4000 - and there is a HUGE loss (much more than I expected) in video quality when on battery power, rather than plug power.
Does the replicator have that annoying metal bar across the top? While it does help prevent accidental dislodging of the various cords on the replicator, it actually gets in the way of plugging in the top USB 2.0 cable
Anyway, excellent review - you've given me a lot to think about my laptop, and your review shows what I have to work towards if I review my machine. Great job Vincent!
