| William's Full Review: Hewlett Packard PSC 500 All-In-One Printer |
I bought the HP PSC500 on November 1, 1999, the first day that it hit the streets. Given HP's reputation in every product that it produces, I knew that the PSC500 would be a winner. It is the PERFECT computer companion. It scans at 600/1200 (only be concerned by the first number). It make rock solid copies with more options than a 1960 Cadillac, and it prints like a color laser. And most importantly, it doesn't suck ink like every other inkjet device on the market. You can read all of the inkjet printer reviews, compare dpi numbers, worry about resolution and color matching, but the bottom-line is that this printer produces beautiful images. And it does these things without sending you to the poorhouse on consumables. HP's cartridges are about $30 each, but they last MUCH longer than comparable models built by Epson, Brother, and Xerox. HP printers are also less prone to paper jams and run much quieter. And a simple note: Although it seems tempting, whatever inkjet printer you buy, don't ever be seduced into buying an inkjet refill kit. Let me put this in the best possible way...THEY S--K. They will ruin your printer. They don't work. Your money would be put to better use in your fireplace. Bite the bullet and spring for the OEM cartridges. Another note: Buy the HP Bright White Inkjet Paper. It has great weight and doesn't absorb (waste) ink like other papers. It might cost more, but as some old sage used to say, "Buy cheap, buy twice." For a home office or any family, the PSC500 is an engineering marvel to be appreciated daily. If you must consider another brand I recommend that you get your head examined. Buy this model.
