| jcweaver's Full Review: Kodak EasyShare DX7590 Digital Camera |
I purchased the Kodak DX7590 in January 2005 after doing what I thought was ample research. The decision to purchase this particular model was based on the long zoom features (up to equivalent 380 mm lens). Overall, this camera is pretty decent with nice, clear photos that can be made at the wide angles. But when you utilize the zoom capability, you better have darned steady hands or a tripod or surface upon which the camera can be placed. I have been frustrated in my efforts to use the zoom, but end up with many blurred photos.
After completing the purchase and reading the manual, it became clear that a tripod or other steady surface (or hands) is required to use the long zoom. In my research efforts, I did not pick up this. I have emailed the Kodak company to express my concern and to get some other tips. But they have offered no useful response or remedy although they claim to be concerned about my experience. I am now considering a possible replacement, a potentially expensive correction.
If you're looking for a digital camera with long zoom that falls within the moderate price range, be sure to check for the models that offer some form of image stabilizer. I'm no technical guru that can fully explain this particular technology, but just want to pass the word to others still in the market. Don't make the same error that I did...
