| imissthewar's Full Review: Sony VAIO PCG-GRZ630 PC Notebook |
I purchased this laptop used, it was one year old. It worked fine for a month or so, and then it would not boot up at all. Turns out these things are notorious for their terrible cooling systems which can cause overheats, which of course leads to another myriad of problems. Another problem is the memory slots will over time become disconnected from the motherboard! Sony charges $700 to fix this!
Also, Sony will deny any design flaws in any of the Vaio systems, their customer service is beyond horrible. I believe there is a class action lawsuit in the works against Sony due to the terrible reliability of their laptops
If you are purchasing a used laptop (considering these aren't made anymore) look to IBM, Dell or Emachines. If you want a nice, purple paperweight, or need to prop a working laptop a couple inches off your desk, look into the Vaio.
