| kzdad's Full Review: Lexmark Z600 InkJet Printer |
Printers - can live without them, right? Okay, maybe you can, but I cant. It was about a year ago I went to Staples in order to pick up some new ink cartridges for my previous printer. The prices was going to cost around $60, no problem, it was something I needed, right? Well, to my left was the Lexmark Z600 printer at a beautiful price of $25. Hmmm
I scratched my head thinking, well, those are starter cartridges, however its a new model than what I currently had and it claims to print photos too - lets do this. And out the door I went with my new printer.
I do a lot of printing as a full-time college student, this baby has yet to let me down. It sits there on my desk, full of paper and ink, one click of the button and bam! A beautifully printed thesis or other paper to turn in to the instructors. One of the main things I didnt like was the software that came with it. The first time, the man shouted so loudly at me, I jumped out of my seat and into my daughters lap practically. The software installs the part where it shows you how much ink you have left as well as telling you, Now printing or Printing Complete. This would be a good feature if you ran out of the room and really needed to know if your printer was done printing or not - otherwise, I found it worthless. You can turn those voices off too, wow! Thats a great idea! The software is no longer installed in my computer. After a recent upgrade and format, I simply allowed the computer to install it as a plug and play without the software, so that aggravation is no longer there. I felt that it actually slowed the whole process down as it was, so not having it there suits me just fine.
Youre probably wondering if this prints good pictures. If you plan on taking professional shots of your family or nature, then no. Go with something with a much better dpi than this. However, if youre printing wallet sized photos to show your friends, this printer will suffice for that purpose. I printed out a replacement DVD cover for one of my cases in black and white - it actually turned out pretty decently. But as I said - professional? Go with something better.
Now for the best part, this Lexmark Z600 printer produces some beautiful, crisp printing jobs for me to turn into my instructors. Some of them in the past didnt care what color your pages were in, so Ive printed green, red, purple, blue, brown - you name it. The colors are precise too! My favorite color is purple, so Ive printed a lot of purple papers, but the starter cartridge didnt like for me to do that. The ink prices arent as expensive as some of your top of the line printers, so print away in purple, green, or whatever other color it is you may enjoy.
If I were to buy this printer as a gift, the idea person would be students, low-end printer uses, and children. Of course, with a child, you may want to install a lock on the printer to prevent having a whole coloring book printed out from the freebie websites as my own daughter did! She too has the exact same printer on her computer as its real easy to use, etc
but now with restrictions!
Overall, I give this printer a 5 out of 5 stars because of its value, its capabilities, and style. When purchasing this printer, you already know what youre going to get because its right on the box - expectations any higher than that will only set yourself up for failure.
