garfield135's Full Review: Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga for Game Boy Advan...
First of all, I'm gonna start off with a bit of the story, and then the review.
So, apparently, Cackletta steals Peach's voice, so Mario and Luigi go out to get it back. Mario fights Bowzer, and he loses, (really?) and they become allies (and Luigi comes along) to get it back. Bowzer gets shot out of a cannon, he gets amnesia, and Cackletta dies, and her spirit goes into Bowzer to create Bowletta (yes, really) and you fight her (him?) and you win, which I have not done yet. I'm sorry, I know it's really confusing.
Basically, this game has been done in a RPG style, which, if you've played the game, is a lot like Super Mario RPG for the SNES. You go around in a oblique style setting (I don't really know how to explain it) through different villages or kingdoms, like the Beanbean Kingdom, or Hoohoo Village. When you bump into enemies, you go into a RPG like fight scene. The fight scene is turn-based, and you can use Bros. attacks, which means that both Mario and Luigi work together to inflict more damage on your adversaries. When you win, some enemies give you items like Mushrooms, which give you HP, or Syrup, which gives you Bros. points so you can preform Bros. attacks. As you improve and fight more enemies, you level up and your stats rise.
You control the jumping by pressing A for Mario, and B for Luigi, who follows you around. The D-pad controls where they go, and L and R brings up different actions the brothers can do, like use hammers. Pressing Select opens your briefcase, a.k.a. the status screen. Pressing Start changes who is following who. (Mario following Luigi + Pressing Start = Luigi following Mario) Overall the controls are very well done.
The graphics in this game are very bright and colorful. They are appropriate for this type of game. The sound is also bright and cheerful. The graphics and sound are another one of this game's strong points.
All in all, this game is a very strong RPG for the Game Boy Advance, with seems to be fairly reminiscent of SMRPG.
