wisedan's Full Review: Maytag MMV4205 1150 Watts Microwave Oven
I bought this Maytag microwave from Sears two years ago and have still not gotten used to the heat output. When heating tomato sauce, the sauce bumps out of the container, even when using a very low setting. I almost never use the highest level, finding that even at 80%, a plate of food will overheat. I called in a service complaint because of what seemed to be too high temperatures and also very low volume on the audible tones. The representative came out quickly (sent by Sears, I believe), but found that the main board needed to be replaced. He ordered the board, which was shipped directly to me. The new board took care of the volume, but the oven is still very hot.
I've also found that the automatic settings are not very accurate or useful. Reheating a dinner plate is programmed to take over 5 minutes, and the plate comes out with overcooked food and dried up sauces. I find 3 minutes at 80% works well. The frozen dinner setting again totally fries the food and is therefore useless.
I cook only single portions, and this oven is clearly too powerful for small quantities of food. The cook settings adjust the proportion of time at full power--70% means it cooks at full power for 70% of the time, and "rests" for the other 30%. This results in food being blasted by the full power.
The oven has worked well enough, but I am disappointed in its usefulness.
