andydg's Full Review: Minox BD BR (10x42) Binocular
For years I've used cheap binoculars. The kind that you can get at K-Mart or Wal Mart for less than $50. Seeing the various kinds online going for more than $100 seemed crazy. That is until I tried out a set in a store. Looking at various brands/models, I found that the Leica's were my favorite. They felt tough and one can't resist their warranty. Being a bit more than I can afford I opted to get these Minox binoculars. They're made by the same company, though I don't know if on the same assembly line. The warranty is very generous, 5 years parts and labor, 30 years parts. As tough as they appear to be, I doubt that I'll have to advantage of this.
They feel well balanced. The strap included has neoprene material in the center for comfort. The upper lens cap can be routed through the strap on the left side. The right side is split for easy removal before use, and replacement in between uses. The material between the caps stretches and contracts to adjust to the width of the binoculars. Very nice as one does not have to change this to replace the cap.
The diopter adjustment on the right barrel is difficult to move, but should guarantee that it won't move on its own.
The focus range is excellent, from just under 2 meters to infinity. The focus adjustment itself allows very precise tuning for the sharpest image.
The rotating eye cup feature is a better system than what I found on the Leica's. One rotates the cup ring about 30 degrees to fully collapse or extend them. The Leica's are push/pull type.
If you've used inexpensive binoculars in the past, you owe it to yourself and your eyes to try a better pair. I am very glad that I did and am extremely happy with my Minox.
