Eye-candy: A monitor worth the money
by jaggwire | Nov 30 '04
Pros: Resolution and brightness--huge pros. Flicker-free, no dead pixels, small footprint, sleek design.
Cons: Tinny-sounding speakers, confusing on-board menu.

good questions that I'll try to answer:
1.) comments on the quality of "black" colors, viewing angles?
The display took some tinkering (onboard menu) to obtain what I felt was "wysiwyg." Colors did not display correctly, i.e., they were too muted and grayed-out. This was quickly remedied using both the onboard menu and adjusting my card's video settings.

2.) How do you use this monitor and with which video card?
My video card is a S3 Savage4 (AGP). This is my primary monitor, and I use it for all that I do on the computer: editing text for publication, editing and touching up digital photography, creating web pages, and I work within various programs (Word, Access, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Fireworks, for example), as well as browsing the web, watching dvd's, playing the occasional game. It's performance is smooth and uninhibited--text, however, is not as "sharp" as I'd like. I have it set at the highest resolution (1280 X 1024).

3.)See much trailing with fast moving images?
I have noticed some "trailing," and having seen it on other LCD's thought it was just a shortcoming of the technology.

4.) How many dead pixels?
None on my monitor. I've read, however, that persons have had issues with dead pixels. That would be a major annoyance with my visual art, too.

The viewing angle of this monitor is a bit more limited than with my older monitor. The sick-bed shade of green on a cloud of black is still the welcoming color I see when I boot my pc, but it warms in time for me to see the pc's boot options before jumping into XP.
Another thing: this monitor is one of the first I've had to exit "sleep" mode in a happy mood. It quickly returns to whatever I was viewing before it took the nap.

Welcome to Epinions....

On the highest resolution, I've noticed that smaller text isn't as sharp,

At anything other than 1280 X 1024, you would expect the text not to be sharp.. other info your readers might be interested in...comments on the quality of "black" colors, viewing angles?
