mjarret's Full Review: Oreck Super Air 7 Air Purifier
Before I purchased my Oreck purifier, like most of you, I had seen it numerous times on television. Did it really do as Mr. Oreck claimed? I broke down and purchased one and was satisfied with Oreck's 90 day risk free trial. They will even refund the shipping charge and pay to have the unit shipped back.
I purchased the unit for my classroom, which is in an older school building, since that is where I spend the majority of the day. After the first week it was in use, I noticed a huge difference. My classroom had a fresh and clean smell versus the musty odors that usually prevailed. I leave the unit on silent during the day, and turn it on medium or high when I leave in the afternoons. But does it really clean the air? I cleaned the filter after the first five weeks (even though the indicator light was still green) and was shocked.
The pre-filter had a lot of dust on it, but the real shock was when I washed the main filter. As I rinsed the cell unit, the water turned black. After I rinsed it off in the sink, I noticed that there was sill a lot of gunk in on the collection plates. I passed a cotton swab through one of the cell plates one time, and it was as black as coal! I decided that the rinse was not enough and purchased the asail-a-cell from my local Oreck store. It was inexpensive, easy to apply, and it did break up the layers of gunk still inside. So, I highly suggest that the asail-a-cell is purchased as well.
I have owned the Oreck purifier for six months, and I am very satisfied. I have even noticed that the students are not as sick or have had as many sinus problems as in the past. I know the air in my classroom is much cleaner, and I can see the results! There is an optional charcoal post-filter to purchase, which I recommend replacing every two months. However, these are inexpensive. Also, do not wait until the indicator light signals you to clean it. I would clean it every four to five weeks regardless.
