Pros: Nice design. Good Sound.
Cons: Poor picture quality. BIG problems.
The Bottom Line: Do not try one of these. I did, and the picture problems have been more than I can bear. I think it may hit the trash can.

| freakengine's Full Review: Philips 25PS40S 25 inch TV |
I was in the market for a new 25" TV with S-video capabilities. That's all. No big bells and whistles, just a decent TV. I've now had this set for over a year, and let me tell you, I'm going to give up and try something else.
I don't know why I didn't just take it back right away. Maybe it was because I had to leave all the packing materials at Best Buy to get the thing into my car. I just KNEW they would hassle me about that, so I've tried to live with the problems, but I can't take it any more.
First of all, the picture just isn't straight. I'm not sure how to articulate this, but when there is a horizontal line at the bottom of the screen, it flares out at the ends, and bends down at the left side of the screen. I've NEVER seen this on a TV before, and didn't notice it on this one until about a week after I'd hooked it up. I think it was a news broadcast and the onscreen graphics looked like they were just plain crooked. After toying around with the settings, it remained the same for TV, video games, and DVD playback.
The other big problem I've had is from a squiggly line that appears across the screen. It looks like electrical interference, and that's what I thought it was, but it's consistent no matter where I plug the TV in (I just moved). I've tried filters and the like, but have come to the conclusion that the TV is the culprit. It's a subtle noise, but it really gets annoying after a while. What a piece of junk! And I actually thought I was getting a bargain when I bought this!
My personal opinion is that these are assembled by monkeys. Some will be fine, and others, like mine, will suck. Of course, they say that if you put 100 monkeys at 100 typewriters for 100 years, one will eventually type Shakespeare. Maybe one will eventually assemble a good TV too.
