| JeannaMarie's Full Review: Vtech VT 1920 900 MHz - Cordless Phone |
We bought this phone because our other non-digital cordless phone was interfering with our baby monitor (Yes, I still use one during nap time even though my son is three). The clarity of this 900MHz cordless is superior to any other phone we’ve ever heard, digital or otherwise, and this particular phone is priced at the level most non-digital cordless phones.
Features of the VTech VT-1920HJ 900 MHz Digital Cordless Phone:
900 MHz digital transmission with digital security
Alphanumeric call waiting/caller ID with 50-caller memory
Spare battery charger and power backup
Backlit LCD and keypad
20-number speed-dial memory
Price:
We paid $39.99 after a $20.00 rebate. (I love rebates!)
Why we like it!
I've never had a problem with interference or cut-out. I've gone all the way to the other side of our block without any signal loss.(I've even been tempted to get in the car to see how far I could drive down the street! If I ever do, I'll update this review!) Unfortunately, I can't comment on how well this might work in a crowed apartment building, but for someone who wants a good phone to have around the house and in the yard, I'd say this one is more than satisfactory.
The design is simple and sleek; the handset unit looks as if it is fashioned after most smaller cellular type phones.
It has volume control built into the side of the handset so that if someone is shouting at the other end you can lower volume without missing the conversation. It has various ringer settings that allow you to control tone/pitch of the ring. This is nice to have when you want more quiet time around the house.
There have been no complaints from me or my husband once we learned how to overcome the one small flaw we experienced at first: the sensation of slight echo when talking to someone --, but then we learned that this thing isn't like the older phones that required a person to have the receiver right on the ear and mouthpiece IN your mouth; again, it's a lot like a cellular in that regard. Just back-off the handset. I've never had problems with it since. It just takes a light hand to hold it (not a shoulder-- that's difficult because it is so flat of a design).
Battery life is great. Although we almost always put it back on the charger at the end of the day, I once forgot about it for several days picked it up and had a long conversation without getting cut off.
Finally, the only complaint I have would be the apparent inability to program the numbers into memory alphanumerically. In other words, I have to scan through a list of phone numbers, instead of seeing, "Mom and Dad", "Office", etc. Since the caller ID is alphanumeric, I wouldn't think it would have been a big deal to make this feature available for the programming, but for what we paid I can live without this!
After using the 1920 for a couple of weeks, I liked it so much I purchased another for my father and the in-laws of course!
