Background
I received the product as a gift, and used it while exercising. However, after using the player only 5 -6 times, the battery cover broke when my son slid the unit out of its factory-supplied carrying case. Samsung will not cover the cover replacement under warranty (it was a gift, so I do not have a receipt), so I am now using duct tape to keep the battery from falling out.
Nicely sized player.
The YP-700 is very small and light, making it an ideal size. However, because of the small size, the buttons can be difficult to operate, especially if you have large fingers. The screen is also small, but scrolls to display track information.
Sound
The sound quality and volume are great for my needs.
Construction
Given my experience, this is the players biggest weakness. While it feels solid, and its anodized case fits well in the palm of your hand, the battery cover is exceptionally flimsy. Only a tiny, thin plastic piece keeps the battery from sliding out. I am now using duct tape to keep it closed, but unfortunately that covers the SmartMedia slot.
Software
The software to load files onto the player is very easy to use. It provides a summary of the space used/remaining and can be used to compress MP3 files to a lower bit rate, if desired.
Accessories
The player comes with a carrying case with a belt clip, external battery pack and remote. I've never used the external battery pack, since the included battery has sufficient life for my needs.
Conclusion
Before the cover broke, I would have given this MP3 player a solid rating. It is a comfortable size, easy to use, and the sound quality is good. However, the flimsy construction and unhelpful Samsung support make me glad that I didn't pay for it!
