| TomHirashima's Full Review: iRiver iMP-150 ChromeX Personal CD Player |
So, I was thinking about getting an mp3 player for a while now, and the main things that deterred me was price and the cost of storage, two things that are pretty important. All the really good players cost and arm and a leg, and the afforable ones really lack features, and either way I go there would be expensive media to go along with it. Plus, after getting it, I'd then have to transffer all my cd media to mp3 if I wanted to bring it along and not carry a cd player, too. I knew about cd/mp3 players, but none of them really caught my eye because the affordable ones seemed to lack features, until I saw the ChromeX.
First of all, it looks great, which is always a plus. I looked up the features, and it pretty much came with eveything I would need. I did some more research and found that iRiver is the korean company that makes the riovolt line of cd/mp3 players for sonicblue, and are now trying to break into the american market themselves. To do this, they basically took a riovolt 250 and stripped out the fm/am tuner, redesigned it, and came out with the chromeX.
When I got it, I found the controls easy to figure out and was up and running right away. It played my already burned mp3 cds just fine, and uses considerablly less power when playing mp3s than when playing regular cds. The backlight on the ample lcd screen is a cool blue, and the buttons have a nice solid feel to them. It plays mp3s, WMA (but really, who uses that?), and with upgradeable bios, hopefully OGG vorbis, too.
Altogether, I can't really say anything bad about it, except that I wish it came with an ac adapter so I could use it with my home-built stereo system without wasting a batteries. Basically, this players meets all my portable audio playback needs. I'm really happy that I made the leap.
