coverthitman's Full Review: Prince of Persia: Sands of Time for PlayStation 2
Prince Of Persia is addictive and almost perfect.
Graphics: Beautiful. They're perfectly smooth and just wonderful. Everything has a cartoonish, 'Aladdin' feel, and the colors are simply suiting to everything. The character models don't actually sport that many polygons, but they're designed so that you'd never know the difference. Where it really shines is in the animations. They are, by far, the most fluid animations ever seen in a PS2 title.
Gameplay: What would these fluid animations be without equally impressive controls? The control is amazingly good, so good, in fact, that controlling the Prince is like moving an extension of your hand. This game is broken up into two basic segments: Action Puzzles and fighting. The former is the high point. The puzzles are nothing short of amazing. You have to run, jump, climb, and swing your way over death traps and to levers all in good timing. The timing is great as to allow some room for error, and above that, the ability to turn back time expands on this room so you'll seldom find yourself frustrated with the trials and errors of making your way through the palace. Oh, and making your way through it is HELLA fun. The prince has a bevy of moves to make this possible. Jumping from wall to wall, swinging on poled, climing columns and trees, swinging on ropes and running on walls. Completing these puzzles in such stylish manner leave you with a sense of pride. "Look at what I can do!"
The only part this game suffers in is the fighting. The fighting can get long, as waves and waves of sand zombies come at you and you dispatch them in various ways. Each has a pattern you must employ to kill them. This is challenging due to their numbers, but after you become a pro at it, it gets redundant and leaves you wanting some alone time to climb and jump through the enormous, gorgeous rooms. This game, although fairly linear, gives you a sense of freedom that is unrivaled.
Sound: The music is always on cue and the voice acting is very good.
Value: Surprisingly, it may not be worth a buy because there's not a lot of replay value and yo ucan beat it in about 10 hours.
