Finally, after three years of relentless work, my Epson Stylus Color II broke down. The cable snapped, and could not be replaced by the experts at CompUSA. We then decided to research a new printer, that was better than the Color II.
We were not going to invest in a Color Laser printer because of the high costs. We trusted Epson, so we decided to buy the Color 740. The Color 740 has great color, even if on low-resolutions. It can print anything from greeting cards to photos to word documents. It does not come with any software, but none is really needed.
The controls are the only downfall of the Stylus Color 740. The Stylus Color 740 is not too good at loading paper to be printed. It can be very irritating when your papers keeps feeding in on a slant. There is no button for transition between color and black ink, which is done automatically when you print. Three or four cables are needed to hook it up to a standard LPT1 port.
The best part of the printer is the photo printing. The quality is incredible, but for your best results, use glossy paper. There are special settings for the different kinds of paper that you can use.
The first Color 740 we purchased did break, but within the five year warranty. We shipped it back to Epson, and they sent us another printer along with some cash, as the price of the printer went down within the last year. Sounds like good service to me!
The Epson Stylus Color 740 is a good printer that can be used for both business and home needs.
