Pros: Cheap, phono input
Cons: Not many features, no S-video, sound quality not very good.
The Bottom Line: This machine is a waste of time and money, along with the ability to fry eggs with the amplifier. Under no circumstances would I suggest this receiver.

Many years back, I purchased a Technics receiver, and it was one of the best things I ever did. The sound was great and it offered everything I wanted, so naturally when it broke after 19 years of great sound, I was interested in getting another one because of the reputation they had built over the years. The only problem is that this brand has made very few advancements over the years, whereas all of the other brands have made many. I bought this model expecting much more than I actually received. With a THD of 1.2%, this machine puts out more distortion than just about any other receiver out there, which means that the sound quality is very unimpressive. After hooking this unit up, I found that I was less than impressed with both sound and features. It was easy to operate, but that is only because it is so limited in what it can actually do. I was disappointed in the fact that there is no S-video capability, which is the next big thing in technology. After deciding that this unit was not the right one for me, I began to unhook it so that I could return it. As I put my hand on the top of it to pull it out, I was very unhappy to realize that the top reached a temperature almost high enough to fry eggs! Not only is this a safety hazard for areas that are not well ventilated, but it also means that the amplifier does not run clean at all, and will have diminished sound quality and power over time. I also found that the 100 watts per channel offered was peak power, meaning that it will almost never give that much power to your speakers. I turned it up about halfway to find that the sound began to diminish with increasing volume, and that there was always an underlying hiss to any sound that came out. If you are looking for an inexpensive receiver that does not offer much in the way of features, power, or sound quality, this is it. I highly suggest looking for a different model, and even a different brand. There are many models out there that offer many more features, including S-video, for the same price. Overall, I am disappointed that a brand that was so good several years ago has become a bargain model that is still not worth the money it costs.
